Happy spooky season and welcome to Hold Up the show where we dive deep inside your childhood nostalgia. Pull the movies from your past to see if they truly hold up. Today I'm hold up with two Subway Hot take Hotline individuals themselves, Kyle and Andrew. , Hope we don't sound like shit.

It kind of sounds like shit from my end. So apologize to our thousands of listeners. Thousands upon thousands. It's no different than any other week. , I'm sure that they'll be okay with the quality. Andrews out of the office today, and Kyle is always out of the office as he's located on the moon, also known as Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Don't tell people where I live. I don't. People tell where I live. Kyle, I thought you were located on, on Atlas three I That is true. I am located on that moving forward body, going throughout our solar system very soon. Good reference Andrew. Nice job. Yeah, thank you. Thought it was timely. It was timely. I will give you that Andrew wins the timely, , award of the day.

Good. Timely. Yeah. Position. Nice job. If we ever come around to the point of getting that as an award, we'll, we'll make sure we get you one. Well, I'm, I'm gonna consider it a real award. I don't really care what you say. You won't have dominion over my life, so it's a real award.

Okay. Okay. This is good. Speaking of awards, we're gonna give some people some horror recommendations for the Halloween season, right Andrew? Uh, we're gonna try, uh, no guarantees. , I may suggest a movie that isn't horror and at that point you can insult me ferociously, and I'll try again, but yeah, , we'll give it a go.

Yeah, I'll, it'll all subjective. It's literally all subjective. Yeah. Yeah. So if I suggest under certain parameters, that's a horror movie to a lot of people, , including me. Um, well, we've got our, we've got some categories we're gonna run through for everybody. , We did this last year, so if you want to check out what we recommended last year, you can just go to our Instagram, scroll down a ways, and you'll see our recommendations.

And now this year we're gonna try to give you something new. We're gonna start it off with the category of classic horror. Kyle, do you wanna lead us off? Oh yeah. Classic. Wow. This is when we say classic, we're talking about movies before the year 2000.

So we're not gonna be reviewing anything. For those past that ancient date of 2000. So I'm gonna go with no two. Oh, classic. It's a, well that one, that one came out a couple of years ago. Not even, so not the Robert Eggers Andrew, the one that we watched. Oh, we need to specify. You need to specify. He didn't need to.

He specify. 'cause we were talking about the classic category. We knew exactly where he was going with that. Well, we didn't specify because most people are gonna think of the Robert Edgars film. I'm just saying you need to specify. I don't think they will. , So this movie came out, I believe in the 20 or 30, I think it was 1925, I think it was almost a hundred years ago.

Very long time ago. , And I would say this is where like one of the films that. Was more mainstream that kind of shaped the horror genre in general. The cinematography and it is very well done. The movie Magic is very well done. , , acting in it for a silent film is superb. There is a movie where it's dubbed over. , With a score. I don't think that's as good. It's not really for me. , Some people might like it, but I think it's a good solid ENT entry for the classic movie. , Again, , you'll be entertained if you like visual horror.

I don't know if you knew this, but brand stoker's, , widow sued that company and tried to burn all the copies.

Mm-hmm. Because it is basically the first Dracula. And she was unsuccessful. Some of the, the movies survived and that's how we got Satu today. But we almost lost it to time. It almost was just a, mm-hmm. A forgotten film, but it stood the test of time. Thanks to SpongeBob, thanks to Sponge, uh, SpongeBob actually did make it popular.

That is a, that is a true statement. Absolutely. Did. , At least the kids our age, so the guy who plays, no, no. Two. Count or lock is Max Shrek. And he was somebody who very much embodied how that, creature himself looks. That's a good one. , Andrew, , do you wanna Temperature classic Now I'm gonna do the Birds by Alfred Hitchcock. Mm, that's a good one too. Um, uh, , I mean, it's about birds that attack people essentially in the San Francisco Bay area, but there's kind of like, a sinister or like, even like a paranormal, uh, reason behind it all. You know, some of it's a little dorky. , And it, you know, obviously it was 1963, so like the. , The effects, practical effects weren't as great as what they would be now, but they weren't practical effects.

So it was, you know, it was a feat, , to be had at the time. And again, it was one that I watched, you know, when I was a kid. , So it had a lasting effect on me. , It is creepy. Like, you know, getting attacked, like children getting attacked by like seagulls or like being like tormented by, , creatures that we have no control over.

That, , you think of as ordinary, , animals that we have really no connection with other than the fact that we, , share this planet with them, , attacking us. , Unprovoked, I dunno. It, it, it's. Hitchcock Classic. He could always go with like psycho or something like that, but I feel like this is a good, , consolation, when picking a Hitchcock Classic, so the birds, I mean, there, there are certainly worse ones, but I do think the birds is definitely one where it's something that could even happen nowadays that like if some virus took hold of, you know.

Which is very, could very well happen, or a fungus or something took a hold and like birds are definitely like. , A group of animals that, you know, they flop together. They have a group mentality for the most part, for, and they literally, they have the higher grounds. Like, we can't fly. How do we control them?

You know, if that group or SEC of animals like turned on us, like, what the hell do we do? Think about taking your dog out every night or just going on a walk or driving, having to fend off like rogue, like evil birds. It's unsettling. I feel it's got some movie that they, that could be, they don't need to, but it could be remade now.

And if it was in the right hands, I think they could do a pretty solid job with it and then maybe infuse some more modern. Ideas into it as well. Yeah, yeah. It is one that I, I do, I do assume that they're gonna remake at some point, or at least put a spin on it.

It's coming at some point down the road. Yeah. , But that's a, that's a good pick. I, this one's for my dad. , house on Haunted Hill is my classic cake. Oh yes. With Vincent Price. . It is a great Halloween feeling movie. , Even by today's standard. It's something you can watch.

You can, anybody can pick it up and watch. There's no gore, it's not super scary, but it has this like suspenseful tense feeling. , If anyone doesn't know, Vincent Price plays this owner of this mansion and he invites several people to spend the night, and anybody that can survive the night in this haunted mansion gets a million dollars.

Um, , there's some stuff to unpack, some great suspense and, you know, some surprises along the way, but it was one I watched a lot as a kid and it still kind of has that spooky vibe to it and that like dim lit kind of room on Halloween night. It really just gets me every time.

That's a good one. Have you, did you ever see the, the remake from 99? I did. I did. It's not that bad. It's not great. It's not by any stretch of the imagination, but it's, it's often forgotten too. Yeah. , It's also quite a bit more stretched than the original, but, , yeah. That's a good one. That's a good one.

, Moving on right along here, Kyle. We're gonna go with your favorite category. We're gonna go with sci-fi. So I actually have two selections for sci-fi this year. Okay. Oh, violating the rules, but it's okay. We'll allow it.

Yes. I'll do whatever I want and you'll be happy. Okay. I am happy. Yeah, you're right. You are. , So I will say, , the first one is gonna be one. I don't think we, we might have talked about this last time, so if we did, that's why I have a backup for another reason. District nine. We did not. , That is a new one to the list.

Yes, that is one that gets on the list because it is, while heavy handed, still a pretty good story, relevant story to the world we live in now. , About and deals a lot with, haves have nots, . Treating groups of people certain ways, bigotry, racism, stuff. It's a big political movie and I remember , it shocked me when I first saw it 'cause I didn't kind of know what I was seeing, but it had a lot of political standing.

It made me leave the theater with a lot of thought. Yeah, it's a very thought provoking movie, which I thought was very For what again? For what it was. You could watch that movie just for the sci-fi and be completely. Taken by that because the sci-fi in that movie is very well done. The CGI is very well done.

The acting is very well done. , There's a number of people in it that were, like very not necessarily super well known actors that just blew it out of the park. , The aliens in that are really good. The story's good. , I think a fun fact about this, I could be wrong, but I think the last time I remember, , going over this, believe that movie, the budget was bookmarked for the Halo movie that they were gonna make with Peter Jackson.

I thought, Hmm. And, but as things fell through, so they had this big budget sci-fi and they didn't have any, they didn't have a script with it, so they found the script and they did the movie, and that's what we got. Very, very concise. Look, I'd rather have that than Halo. Honestly, I think District Nine is a lot better than anything that they would've made with Halo at that point.

I agree. I'm still waiting. I'm still waiting for a good halo. I think they could do a great Halo movie, but like it's gonna be very expensive. Yeah. Especially now series is not very good. So. Yeah. Surprise, surprise. They may have waited , their length at this point on it probably, but probably not gonna happen.

'cause they were gonna do be of War movie too. Oh, thank God they didn't do that. Yeah. No, I can't stand that series. , But the second movie would be King Kong, a Peter Jackson movie, another Peter Jackson movie. , I love it though. So I thought that was a very. Very well done, but very tedious, , movie, but it basically, because it has a, it has just about everything you need in it.

It's got like the, , it's a very long SFA movie. It's about two and a half hours, two I know, two hours, 15 minutes long. It's almost three hours. Very long movie. Very good acting in it. Adrian Brody's in it. Jack Black is in it or what's her face? I don't think it was Nicole, Kim and Amy Watts I think is in it.

There's a lot of big people in that. , Andys is in it. , I do enjoy that movie because I enjoy Peter Jackson's take on King Kong. 'cause king Kong is a classic monster classic kind of in that Kai realm.

He was like, almost like the Americanized Godzilla and I really enjoyed Peter Jackson's take on that 'cause he just added a lot of depth to who can. Kong is , as a monster. Yeah. In the world that he's from. It makes it more complicated. It makes the more, a less straightforward villain hero and more of like a, I identify with it.

This is an animal. This is a highly intelligent animal that has a sense of self and all we see in it is money. Yeah. And corruption. , Very sad movie. Yes, I will just say that. Very sad, but very well done, and the action sequences are very well done. CI might be getting a tad dated now, but it's still very good s movie.

Worth the watch. Yeah. , I'm gonna shock you both 'cause I'm gonna go with, uh, something newer in my sci-fi category, but I just watched a movie this last year, that really blew me away. And there's not very many modern movies that just blow me away like this, but it is, , the substance, I think is a phenomenal sci-fi movie, , especially sci-fi horror.

, And. It just kind of captivated me. It had a lot of cronenberg in it. I don't know, did you guys ever see, have you guys seen it yet? No. No. . It's worth the watch. I kind of went in blind on it, not knowing as much, , and I think that really helped. So I won't like spoil too much into it, but it does deal with aging and the perception that we have on, , women's bodies and how that can kind of drive them to do different things and even some really fucked up things.

, To kind of preserve their youth. So, very good movie, just great all the way around. So the substance is my sci-fi pick. , People thought Debbie Moore killed it. I mean, she won the Golden Globe, I'm pretty sure for, she still looks fabulous for her age too. , But , she was great in it.

I mean, and I can't even think, I'm trying to think of who the young actress is. It's in it and I can't. Margaret Qually. Yes, , she does , a great job. It is. It's a great movie, so if you haven't seen it and you love sci-fi, you love horror. That's one that you have to watch this holiday season. , Andrew, what about you?

What, what you got for sci-fi? , I'm gonna go with one from familiar lore. I'm going, I'm gonna pull, , alien Covenant. Okay. Not Prometheus, but Covenant.

, And there're a lot of these, , around That one's got, that one's like a lot of critical pan to it too. Yeah. , Mixed reviews , from people, , but idiots I know from idiots, from idiots. I, I agree. Uh, you know, we've seen a lot of, alien movies, in my opinion, in the past like 10, 15 years that really just , we're solid all around.

Yep. This one's no stranger to that. Uh, it's, it, it kind of has the same feel as Prometheus. , You feel doomed from the beginning. Yep. It's dark., It's just,, it hits all the spots for everything you want in an alien movie. And the ending, the ending to me is what?

Just. Uh, gave me chills and really fucked with me because, you know, at the end she's going into cryo sleep and David, who is supposed to be, , it's David, right? Yep. Uh, yeah. It's supposed to be, , they're helping since, but then it's. You know, uh, as she's being put under, she realizes it's not David, but, , what's his name?

Kyle. What's, what's the other, the other guy's, I can't remember his name. I can't remember. He's essentially the, he's the same. It's the same guy. It's the same dude, , played by, , Michael Fastbender plays both roles, but , it's the same synth model, but one of them has been imbued, , with, , a programming favorable to, , Wayland.

And he's doing his bidding essentially. And they obviously can't tell the difference between these two sins. One of them has a sense of identity and has dyed his hair white. , And that would be David, the other one, I can't remember his name. Walter. Walter. David's the one who is causing all the problems, and he is essentially trying to bring back the alien for the corporation in that movie. He is, he's trying, his whole sole purpose is to make sure the alien survives as the perfect weapon Yeah. For the Wayland Tani corporation going forward.

Correct. And , that's pretty much like hits on the theme of like all the alien movies, which is like, you know, corporate greed, money is real. The real enemy, , not necessarily this perfect organism whose only sole purpose is to help, , propagate itself through, , parasitic means.

It's, I agree. I think this is one that people really shadow over because it wasn't like super wealth, like super sought out. , I thought it's not supposed to be like, that's not what that movie is. Prometheus did plenty of that for us. This is a follow up to Prometheus. Leave it there. It doesn't need to be anything crazy.

And it is a good movie. It's solid acting solid. , Some of the se some of the death scenes in it are very well done. I would say some of the best alien horror that is around.

It hits hard. It's, it's, . Creepy and evil and dark and all the things you want to get into, , for this, , spooky seasons.

So I highly recommend. Well, Andrew, we're gonna hit harder and ask you to go with your slasher 'cause I know that is your least favorite category. Hey, you remember I do. , I remember everything about you, Andrew. All right. So I don't really, it is a flasher, but also it's more of a suspense horror thriller.

But, , I'm gonna go with the strangers, the original. Yeah. . I was gonna pick that. I'm glad I had a fucking backup. I was going to pick that. Andrew, you son a bitch. , I'm glad you picked me first because I would not have had a slasher, , beyond this. But that movie always, , freaked me the fuck out.

, It is very real. I watched it very real. I watched it a couple years ago and you always watched at night. This is not a day movie. You watch it at night. All the lights are turned off. , It's just unsettling. It's just so unsettling. , I was gonna say Pray at Night, which was the sequel that a lot of people panned, I thought was really fun.

It's not as serious as the original, or at least it's not as. The originals so serious and the tone is so dark. It's, so, yeah. It's, , the second one gets kind of a little bit more like flamboyant with it, but , that is a great pick. 'cause that is a solid, , slasher that , they haven't been able to repeat the success of.

, They just remade 'em and they're getting paid left. And I dunno why they did. Yeah. I don't know why they did. I mean, it's a one and done movie came out, it came out in 2008. , Why do you need to, , remake a movie from the past 20 years? You don't, you know what I mean? You don't just let it be.

, Kyle, what's your, since your backup since Andrew stole your original, what's your backup? Well, , it's similar-ish, but not really. I don't know if you all have seen funny games before. Ooh, that's, , is that German? It was, I believe it was originally German. The original German, yeah. , I believe at first it was German, but then it was adapted for the United States. And Andrew, if you haven't seen this one yet, I really, really recommend it. Chase, if you haven't seen it, , it's on my list. I, I, it's more, don't shut up. I'm not done talking yet.

, Yeah, I recommend if you guys haven't seen it, I really highly recommend it. Chase. I think you would really enjoy it, just because of like what it gets into. And the whole premise of this without giving anything away is like social norms that we've adopted in the last like a hundred years, we'll get us killed.

Like there is no, like, there's no world in which this movie happens anytime before the year 1900. In certain areas, in some places maybe even might happen more, but like in our modern world, there is no like, it, this would happen like all the time because people are so used to, , they don't want, nobody wants to say no

I don't think this movie. Would be able to happen before the year 1900. Nowadays, this would happen all the time just because we are so used to not saying no, and we're so used to social cues and this is a movie that praise on your social cues and like when somebody says Please use, say thank you. Yeah, thank you.

Yeah, thank you. Whatever the call in response is. This plays off of it very well, and , it's horrifying. It's really, really scary. It very much just plays on fears that you didn't know you had until you watched this movie.

And . It's tough to watch. I think you guys would love this movie, and if you're listening, I think you guys would love this movie. , I will add this to you, Kyle. I know a lot about this movie without ever . Seeing it. It's on my list. I need to watch it, but I do know it gets the low ratings because of its brutality, and that's unfair.

Yeah, it is. Supposed to be like a horror film, and people need to not watch horror films and get like, grossed out or shocked and get upset because that's what they're going for. That needs to stop. , Yep. I'm gonna throw one your way. I don't think either one of you have seen, this is kind of like a deep cut that I watched when I was a kid.

Uh, no, I wasn't really a kid. But in high school it's behind the Mask of Leslie Vernon. Um, have you either one of you seen it? No. Nope. Haven't heard of it either. , It is hilarious. So it's basically a mockumentary where they follow this serial killer and they're interviewing him before his big, like murder brewery.

And he's telling them of all the cardio training he does. Showing them like all the stuff he has to do to prepare for having a legacy is what he calls it. He's like, I wanna be just like Michael and Jason. And he's like, you gotta have all these things you gotta have, you know, and he's teaching them all this.

Stuff and they're just like kind of halfheartedly going along with it. They think he's just kind of like a psycho. And then halfway through the movie, the real movie begins and it turns into a full fledge horror slasher film. But the first half is this mockumentary? It is. Well done. It is so funny. I think there's one line in there I could think about it constantly, where he's doing a bunch of cardia and they're like, what are you doing?

He's like, I'm doing cardio. Have you seen the. Where the kids are running and they're trying to keep up like, tires your ass out, you gotta be ready. And so it's like, you know, just thinking about a slasher , from the perspective of the killer is really good. Um, well-made movie and was independent film.

It floated under the radar for a long time, but well worth the watch. Um, Andrew, I'm gonna swing it back over to you. We're gonna hit the zombie category. Okay., This one isn't, um. As horror driven as you'd like, but again, not the biggest fan of zombie movies either. But Shot of the Dead, I love movie.

Movie. Ooh, , that's a phenomenal zombie movie. Great. It's like one of the best of all time. It's incredible. It's funny, it's Simon p and Nick Frost who really can't do any wrong, in my opinion. No, no. They're one of the best duos , ever. Yeah. , This is a movie for like, literally like. Everyone like age.

Mm-hmm. Like 12 and above. , It's not too brutal. It's fucking hilarious. Very funny. Edgar Wright. Edgar Wright's such a great director. I mean, like Yeah, he is. And this is the first installment in Theo Trilogy. Yes, correct. , It's the original of the three. And you just can't go wrong with this movie.

No. It's one that you, honestly, all three, in the, in that trilogy. You know, I, it's, I would say you're not gonna miss, I would say the Hot Fuzz is probably my favorite. They're all great. , They're all worse a while, but Sean and the dead watch it.

You won't hear an argument. Yeah. , And Andrew, I'm even following in your footsteps here. So I picked Return of the Living Dead. , That's one of my, okay. There. Time favorite zombie films. It's the first zombie film where zombies were talking and wanting brains because they're like hurting. So they kinda explain a little bit of why they do what they do, but it's absolutely slapstick hilarious.

Like where they're, is that the one where they trained the zombie to shoot the gun at the end? No, that was a Day of the Dead. That was Day of the Dead, which is still, that's another good one out there. , Day of the Dead also very slept on. A lot of people thought it was. Really bad following, , Dawn of the Dead, which I mean Dawn of the Dead, maybe the best zombie film ever made.

, But Day of the Dead, it still stands up. It actually stands up more now than ever before. It's a really good watch, very tense. Some great acting in that one as well. , But Return to Living Dead is they're at a medical supply store and. The guys just showing off all the equipment that they have and they actually have some of the corpses from Night of the Living Dead apparently really happened and the government's trying to cover it up and they open it up and the gas leaks out and everybody turns into zombies.

That's right. Yeah, I remember that one. Yes. , There's a part where they're, , they can't figure out what to do and they're going to burn the zombie parts. 'cause they keep hacking 'em up, like in the movie and it's not killing them. So it's like nothing can destroy them 'cause they're already dead.

And he's like, what, what, what's in these bags? What do you, what do you got? And he is like, weasels and he. Weasels and he's like, yeah, they're rapid weasels. We have to burn 'em. Um, but like one of my favorite films, I watch it every year in October. It never gets old. It's such a great movie.

, I think Kyle, what what you got for us in the zombie, we've already talked to, we've covered this one lightly before, but quarantine the, the American version that everybody Oh, yes. I almost picked rec, believe it or not. Really? I'm glad you did. Yeah. , You fucking prick. I, you would've just tried to upstage me without picking , the real artistic Spanish version.

But quarantine's good though. , It's kind of like shot for shot, you know, but it's still good. But, but again, like it doesn't need to be anything else than that. , And there's no, there's nothing else that needs to be said, like the. The whole time, like from the beginning of that movie, and just like from where it starts to where it ends and the journey they take you on is very well done and acting pretty well done.

Not very bad , for pound footage. , Which is definitely something that , I might just, I might double up on that because I think it's a great zombie, but also found footage. , it kills two birds with one, . I don't, I think that like, you know, the moral dilemma of like, you know, how do, are we ever gonna get outta here?

Why are they doing this too much? Versus the fact that they, they kind of know at a certain point why they can't get out and why they're, what they're doing. And I highly recommend watching this very tense. I didn't tell you anything that you, that it's very tense. I didn't tell you anything about anything else other than , the main story points though. Go watch it. Classic Jennifer Carpenter movie too. Yeah, it, what'd you say? We'll be visiting another one of hers here soon.

It's very soon. Mm-hmm. , Kyle, well stay on you since you started the found footage. What's another found footage film that the people can watch, quarantine. That was your that So you're gonna do quarantine twice? I'm gonna have to. I don't, dude. , I don't know of any except for like the paranormal activities.

How about we say this? , Kyle's pick is gonna be rec. So if you love quarantine the English version, go watch the rec series, which is the Spanish made version that came before it. , That's gonna be his pick. , Andrew, do you have a found footage film for us? Yeah, , I wanna make sure this is not my paranormal 'cause it could be, no, it's not my paranormal because it could be considered paranormal as well.

, A lot of the found footage films are based in the paranormal world, . I had to go a little bit deeper for this one. 'cause as Kyle said, like a lot of the found footage, like we've talked about or the options , are limited. But I'm gonna go with , the taking of Debra Logan.

Very good. I almost picked that one too, believe it or not. That is Well, you didn't, that is brutal. Absolutely brutal. Yeah. Dark. Freshman year at MKU, , alone in my dorm. , And it was tough. Like it was, it was dark, man. Like, it, it, it, it hits everything. , It's essentially just about, , a woman who has, , dementia and it's progressing worse.

And, you know, I don't know what world or why, uh, you'd allow someone to document your life at that point, but she did. And it's just. , It just gets fucking twisted and evil and, it's tough to watch, but it's it's a good one. Yeah. It's one that people don't think I've seen as much as they should have.

It's, it's one that people should, should know about that they don't. I should say, and definitely dealing with an evil disease too. And that's kind of where the whole metaphors come in. Absolutely. I actually have one that I think, Andrew, you would love, and I challenge you to watch it this October, but one of my found footage picks this one's for you, Leif, , is Lake Mgo.

Have you guys seen it or heard of it? No, , I have heard of it. And when I was doing my research just to, you know. Fire up , the brain cells and get to critical thinking. Blake Mongo was one that I saw when I was doing searches on like Reddit and stuff. , I haven't seen it. I don't know anything about it.

So please take Chase. Take it away. You should know very little going into this movie. I think it works way better that way. It's, it is kind of found footage, kind of mockumentary it. It sets up like a documentary. I think it's Canadian and this girl drowns in this lake.

And the family is thinking they're dealing with her presence and her spirit, and they're kind of like documenting it from the form of like a 60 minutes episode. That's how it's kind of set up. It's very well done. It is very tense and it throws a lot your way and turns the tables on you at the end.

It is a little bit of a slow burn, so. Be prepared for that. But Andrew, I think you would very much love it. , I do think it falls more into the suspense thriller category, but there is that paranormal element to put it in horror as well. ,, speaking of paranormal, we're hitting the paranormal category.

, Ooh, yeah. I'll start us off. , I'm going another international film. This one is pretty recent. It's when evil lurks , something that blew me away, it's from Argentina. It's basically what if a town could become possessed by a lingering spirit? I won't give any more away than that.

, It, it is a wild journey. , It's not a movie for the faint at heart e either be just prepared for that one. , But it is a great movie to watch. , Kyle, what about you? Do you have a paranormal one for us? Veronica. Oh, solid. Yes. Yes. It's a, it's another, , foreign film that's, yes, it's Spanish. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

, I believe it's Spanish. Yes, it's Spanish. I believe there's, I believe it takes place in Spain is what I mean. I know. It's, I know the language being spoken in Spanish. I mean, setting, I don't know if it's like Central America or Spain, but I believe it's Spain. , I do believe it is Spain. , First I thought maybe Mexico, but I think it is Spain.

I think it's Spain, , very Catholic culture, very much, , religious culture. And this movie is, I could not watch it the first time I watched it, , because it was a little too much. And that's saying a lot. I had to actually wait until Andrew came to visit me in Chicago, and I think we both kind of walked away from that, like, uh, wow.

Okay. It's a lot. It was a lot. And, it's a heavier paranormal movie that deals with, you know, paranormal. I don't want get too much away, but like, Ouija board, very Ouija , board , people play with Ouija board at the wrong time. That's all you need to know. And it never ends well.

, And it certainly doesn't in this one. And, but it ends in a way that just absolutely guts you. , So that's what also makes us hard to watch because it's like, it deals with loss. It deals with like, you know, being tricked. It deals with, , coming of age, , loss of, yeah, I don't wanna get too much away, but , this is a very high up there.

Watch it. If you haven't seen it and you really want to be scared, that movie, it should scare you. It's not a jump, it's not necessarily jump scare. It is a very unrelenting. Miserable scare. , Like looking at all these movies that we've listed, we all have like a type of horror. We're not big into the jump scares.

I will say that we're big into like mood, atmosphere, intention. Mm-hmm. Yep. , I know people shit on them, and I think that they don't understand what, what true good things are.

They're also probably the people that don't like chocolate or vanilla, they probably don't like cinnamon. Um, and you're fucking idiot. You're wrong. And this is not the podcast for you. So go else. Um, but like, you know, but, but he's also just kidding. If you're willing to like, pay money on our Patreon and keep the podcast alive, remember we're doing this free I'll what you can.

If you, if you Patreon and you subscribe for $5 a month, I will let you tell me how wrong I am. With fan mail and I'll read it in front of everybody just knowing that you're paying me to do that, , fine. Go for it. But you're wrong. Like you are inherently wrong. We'll bring you on the show to debate with us.

You're wrong. All right. There you go. There you had it, everybody. So if you want to go to our website and launch a tirade towards Kyle and how you're feeling about him. I know one person, , would love to get on here and just bash you over the head with like a frying pan or something.

If you think I'm wrong, come in here and, and, and eviscerate with your words. . Um, Andrew, what about your para paranormal movie? So again, , there's plenty that I could have picked from that would've been obvious or like, oh yeah. Duh. , But I went a little bit deeper. , This is one, , that was inspired by a book, which was then, , inspired, a long running play, , on the West End.

, It's called The Woman in Black. Mm. , The play in England I saw when I was there was this Daniel Ratcliffe. Yes, it was. Yes, that's the movie. But he's talking about the play that they did on the West End. The play was one of the longest running, , plays on the West End, and it was, , it was done by two people and they played every single character from horses to animals, , to bar keeps to everything.

, They each actor played every single character. And it's about, it follows this, , young clerk. Who you know is in a law firm, but he's instructed to go up to this place called Griffin Griffith, England, which is like on the far like northeast side, the middle of nowhere, like in the swamps in Marsh.

It's completely desolate and completely separated from the rest of the country, essentially. But he has to go through, you know, the will and other things of this. , Dead ladies, , belongings, , the Eel Marsh house, and people don't want to help him because at this house, , it's haunted by this woman, essentially who lost her child and has not moved on to the afterlife.

And essentially, . Kills other children in the village and anyone who comes in contact with her, , and , Daniel Radcliffe's character, I think his name's Arthur Kipps, has to deal with living and staying in this terrifyingly haunted mansion for like three days on an island off the coast that deals with.

, The rising of the tides and the fact that no one wants to help him or, you know, see it through and it's, it's dark. , It's a little bit off the cuff. , It's not as good as the play itself, but it's still pretty darn good for an onscreen adaptation. And, , it'll fuck you up.

It's pretty dark. Nice. Well, , I think that's everything. I think that kinda wraps us up. There. So you know what it, it's time for everyone to go out into the world and watch these movies. And then again, you can always follow us on Instagram, send us hate mail or send Kyle hate mail through our website.

, I know he or send lewd pics, lewd pics. Whatever you need to do to vent yourself. But make sure you watch these movies because we are the authority in horror movies and Halloween season, , and as the authority. Our next episode, what are we hitting, Andrew? The exorcism of Emily Rose. Woo. I know that one's been highly requested too.

So tis the C has it actually, yeah. I've had several people ask me about that one. , That makes me happy. I'm glad people are on board with that. Yeah. We're, we're finally going to get to it. So next week that's right. October, we are hitting an episode each week and next week we are hitting the exorcism of Emily Rose.

We'll see you all next time
