Hold up just a minute. This is Chase. I'm with Kyle and Andrew, and tis the season everybody. . Merry,  Holidays. Merry Christmas. Great job everybody. Kyle  loves the holidays. Kyle is the spirit of Christmas. I am Christmas. I am spirit.  Both in my back pocket. I'm very good.

Do you like toys Kyle? Boy, do I. Sex toys or regular toys? Yeah, I mean, either or. I thought you were talking about sex toys, . Andrew's mind just went right there. I left it open ended. I knew where Andrew's mind was gonna go. I was curious. Oh, did you know that? I did. Did you know that? Were you aware?  I did.

Speaking of toys, we're , running down the list of the top selling toys of the 90s. That's hot. This is gonna be tough. This is going to be right up our alley. They have no idea, guess wildly. And when one of us wins, we'll pretend like we knew the whole time. , I'm gonna be awful at this.

, I'm gonna lose.  The rules of engagement here is it's gonna be Andrew versus Kyle. We're gonna go from each year of the 90s starting from 1990.

And go all the way to 1999.  And you're gonna try to guess the top selling toy of that year. Mmm.   In particular, this is around Christmastime, too. So, are y'all Wait, can you So, the top two toys or the top toy? Top toy of that year. For each year, of each year.

So, are we gonna start at 90? That's what I just said. And go to 99? That's exactly what I said. Oh my god. , real quick, we dedicate this episode to Ryan Day.  Pour one out. Ryan Day. Shut up. Maybe the greatest coach in the history of the sport. I absolutely think so. Yeah, and that's coming from an Alabama fan who dealt with Saban for 17 years.

. I think he's got free dinner in Michigan anytime he wants it. Probably.  They're gonna build him a statue in Ann Arbor. Yeah, they are.  Alright, are we ready to start it off? I think so. Alright, let's do this. So we're gonna start with 1990.

Andrew, do you want to start us off? Kyle, do you want to start us off? Doesn't matter, we're both clueless. So, let me ask you this. Will video games partake in this, or are we just going with like I was just about to, you took the words out of my mouth. Yes, . I will say this.

I think video games were kind of inaccessible until like the mid to late 90s to large swaths of people. Um, I think you're gonna be wrong about that. And,  we'll just have to see. Okay. Well, let's start it off. Andrew, what do you want to guess for 1990? So, I don't know, even know if this is the year that it came out, but , I said, , SNES, Super Nintendo.

Super Nintendo. Kyle, what do you want to guess? Uh, not, not that, , Saving Private Ryan, uh, toy set. Didn't that come out in like, 96 or something like that? 99. Um, uh, So like a 4K copy of  Saving Private Ryan on Blu ray? My left foot action figures. That's good. I can't, I, I'm gonna be honest. That's gonna hit.

In 1990, that was the year I was born. I have no idea. I'm,  I, Tonka truck. , I will give you, ,  So it is a classic Cartoon and it's a it was a comic book. It started as a comic book, my little pony  It's not my little pony.

Oh fuck. Yeah  So there goes Andrews child classic comic book Yep, yeah, we played with these as children. You don't know it as much from the comic book You know it more as that probably the TV show  the action figures as well

From a comic so I Wanted to immediately jump to like Batman  But I don't know but there was no Batman that came out that year  Superman, I mean that would have been around the time of Michael Keaton's Batman Yeah, but  not usually they released that with the movie or 89. I think that came out in 89 Um, but it would have been big.

Yeah, but it would have carried over for a year You think? Yeah. That movie of that size. Well, but that's what you're saying. You wouldn't know it from the comic book though. Are you talking about me not knowing it or just the general public? , ,  when you think of these characters, you think more or less of the TV show.

Hmm. Wait. Power Rangers? It's not Power Rangers. Five.  I think Power Rangers came later, maybe. I don't know, just tell us. Fantastic Four. It is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Suck me dry. I did not know that they had in the comic book, that threw me off a little bit. These guesses, I'm gonna go ahead and tell you, these guesses are gonna be a little easier than you think they are.

Um, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they were on fire in the Christmas season of that year. TMNT, TMNT. , they were sold for 4. 99 each. What would that go for now? I'm gonna say nine to ten dollars.  I would say twenty or thirty probably. Fuck us, am I right?  Did either one of you play with Ninja Turtles?

I had one, I think. , I think I had, what's the purple one? Donatello? I think I had Donatello. Actually, I have no idea. I don't even know. There's Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and, , Dick, isn't it? Dick Cavett? Dick. Bob Woodard.  . That's when they started running out of ideas. , now they're sidekick companion, Craig.

Craig.  What is the fourth one? , alright Chase, go on to the next year. Okay, 1991, what do you think here? , SNES. I'm just gonna keep saying it. I'm just gonna keep fucking saying it. Uh, Game Boy.  That would be my second guess actually. So it is indeed a Nintendo is what it says. It's the NES system. Okay, so not SNES.

Not SNES. But NES. NES. I thought the NES came out in  the late 80s and the Super Nintendo was early 90s.  I thought the NES came out in  88, 89 and SNES came out in 91 or 92. It's just saying right now.  I'm reading through this, because it's just saying the NES was hot at this time as well.

But I think the Super Nintendo   launched at this time. So, so, so, I'll give you credit for that. Fuck yeah, you will. But it's, it looks like the Super Nintendo and the NES both were high selling.  So the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was created, or released in North America, , on August 23rd, my birthday, at 91.

Let me see that. And nationwide on September 9th, 91. What does the picture look like? S E N E S Yeah. Now you can stop guessing that. So now we're going tonight. No, he's still gonna guess it. He's . He used to, every year he'd come make it come back. And the NES was released in 83. Right. So 86 in knew in the United States knew, but I knew it.

It saw resurgence too. The, because the NESI think dropped its pricing. Yeah. When the SEES launched. , which it was expensive, so not everybody had one. So that was your chance to get in NES. And so I think it had a resurgence in the early nineties. Okay. ,  Do you wanna guess 1992? Do you wanna start off with guessing NES.

N n no, , Gameboy color?  Gameboy was gonna be my next, but I think I'm I think I'm just gonna do like, fuckin Furby or something. I don't think I think Furby, no, no, I scratched that, Furby's later. , let's do Etch a Sketch. That's a sketch. Yeah, I think we've rewatched it. A classic 70s toy. I'm gonna say  Is that 70s?

I think it was like a long time ago.  Yeah, well they made them. We had one in the 90s. Absolutely. Because we are doing this list because we are 90s children. They probably made it without mercury and lead and that's why they re released it. Now without mercury and lead. Yeah, mid 1950s , he's such a sketch.

So Jesus just 40 years off. It's okay. It was innovations or innovations, you know. Yeah. , and it's nineties to me because, you know, that's when , I first encountered it.  I'm gonna be pissed if it's Game Boy, but I don't think it was Game Boy yet. I think that was later.  So I'm gonna say

Easy Bake Oven. It's not, it's not because that's a girl's tour.  , even though I had three of 'em.  , what is it, Chase? , it is the original Trolls Dolls. I was gonna fucking s God, shit cock! That's what I'm saying, don't second guess yourself here. Fuck! , I never had any Troll dolls. I didn't, I had one or two.

, they were sold for about a dollar. You could throw them real far.  You could hug them. You could smash those fuckers, too. And they would pop back up. Run them over with, , your parents car.  Why did you have a kid? You weren't even born yet. Yeah,  I'm just saying, , you could put him you know, behind tires.

, why are your parents far? He's getting this kind of like suspicious like phase, he's like, you can shove him up your butt. You could. You have a hairy butt. You could. You could be like your little, actually I'm not going to finish this. I already know what you're going to say, but we furries here.   Moving on to 1993. Was this your birth year, Andrew? No, I said 92 as my birth year. I wasn't listening when you were talking. Clearly, that's why we're so, you know, effective here. Here we go. 93. What do you think for 93?  Alright,  I don't know.

Kyle, you go.  93.  I'm gonna say Game Boy.  Saying Game Boy. . , I'm gonna say  Skip it. What the fuck? Oh, the skip the ankle bracelet. The ankle. I thought he was trying to skip the question. I was, and then I realized what he was talking about, dude. The ankle monitor.  The practice ankle monitor for people that are.

That's good. Oh my god, . My little home arrest. ,  1993,  Kyle, you get kind of partial credit because Game Boy's looped in here, but it was the Sega Genesis versus Nintendo, the SNES versus the Genesis. That was the year. , , Andrew, I think you will know this. Do you want to guess what the original Sega Genesis sold for?

The original? ,  Like 99 dollars? Um, 129.  What? I was gonna say 125. That's crazy. That's a lot of money. And then the Sega CD, If anyone had one of those honka shits, , it sold for 229 dollars. What was the Sega handheld?  The Game Gear. I had that. Yeah, I did too. It was actually a lot of fucking fun. Yeah. It was because  it was in color too.

Yeah, it was like an LED. I think it was the first  handheld that came in color. I think that was because that was before the Game Boy Color. But like even  the color scheme on that was better than , a gameboy color. Cause it had like an LED background.  It was lit up I'm pretty sure.

, I always saw it as dim. Like it was really hard to see, but it would drain the fuck out of some batteries. Yeah, it would. , Sonic was great on that. Mortal Kombat. , there were some good, good games. NBA Jam. We had a Robocop versus Terminator on that. Hell yeah. Oh damn. Yeah, it was a great one.

Damn.  Let's move to 1994. What are we thinking? Another big one. Another big one. Not game related, so let's No guessing on the consoles now, but this is another big one. In 1994. Oh, the 1995 Volkswagen Beetle.  Holy shit. In 1994. That's a great toy. 1994. That's a great toy for children. Yeah, you never know. , 94.

That's what everyone's stepdad was driving. Uh, was 94 bop it? I was gonna, don't say things that I'm about to say next. I can't read your mind fuckface, so speak up. This is dumb.  I was going to say Bop It, so I said Bop It too. , it is not Bop It, it is Power Rangers. Oh, I already said that, so , I should get credit.

No, that's not how it works. Okay. , is that how Ryan Day is? How like, beat Michigan once? I scored points against Michigan. Alright, come on now. Give me credit. , I'm trying to look to see if they would tell me how much a Power Rangers costs when it, when it doesn't. Go, go Power Rangers. , did y'all have Power Rangers?

I had like one or two. I had like 20. I think I had the blue one and the red.  , I think I had like seven to ten somewhere in that range. Does anybody remember their names? Fuck no. Tommy. I remember Tommy was the white ranger. Yeah, and then Kimberly. Oh Kimberly. She was the yellow one or because was she pink or yellow?

She was pink. Yeah, it was yellow. One day. We'll do an episode on the tragedy of that show Oh, yeah, how everybody in that show like got addicted to drugs or died. Yeah, it's Oh, wow. I'll have to do some research. It's heartbreaking. No idea. It is a cursed show.  Later episode. Let us know in the comments if we should do that.

Let us know in the comments if we shouldn't. Please comment. So moving on. 1995. Neither one of you are gonna guess this one. PlayStation?  Might. It's not PlayStation. Go fuck yourself. 1995? We're not gonna guess it. Furby. This is ,  More. Chia Pet. I was gonna say, stop, stop.

Easy Bake Oven. It's not the Easy Bake Oven. Shrinky Dinks. I think Easy Bake was in the 80s, was it not? I don't fucking know. I think they had more of them as time went on, so they got safer.  It's not My Little Pony, is it? It's not My Little Pony. It's not a bad guess. Teletubbies? It's not Teletubbies.

What's those dragonflyer things? That bullshit. You're Close. Dragonfly or things? I know what it is. It's like the fairy thing. Yeah. You twist and it goes. Sky dancers. Sky is Yes. Not Polly Pockets? Not Polly Pockets. It's Sky Dancers. I didn't have the name, but I knew what it was. It's that little thing they twirl up in there.

, you pull the little cord, rip cord, and it goes.    I don't know if you guys remember that I'd never had any of these so yeah  Our friends had one.

I remember one of my friends getting a weapon because he like pulled One back and it went all the way into the ceiling fan And it shattered and like went across the room and like broke a bunch of shit.

Did he get grounded? He got a whippin We don't get grump. I hope his parents put him up for adoption. That's pretty low. . Wrong kid, dad! Wrong kid, dad. , 1996. N64. Another big one. It's not the N64. It's not the PlayStation? It's not the PlayStation. It's not Game Boy?

It's not. You have, you came into this room with four guesses and you're guessing in every one. I don't  Kyle, what about you? What do you think?  Another big one. Another big one. It was A big one? Mm hmm.  It's not Fisher Price's checkout station, is it?  It's Fisher Price's  cashier. Cashier, that's what it was. It is weird how Fisher Price taught   our generation, how to have mundane jobs for the rest of their life.

And how to cut vegetables.  It's utilitarian purpose in our capitalist society.  Fisher, Pricious, Conjugal visit.  Can you give us a hint for 96? , there's been a lot of jokes about this toy.  There's a lot of  sexual innuendos with this toy. Furby? No, not Furby. What's with you Furbies?

There's, it'll make sense when you hear it. It's Tickle Me Elmo. Oh, fuck. Oh, good. Good one. Yeah. We all, did we all have one? I had one. I did not have one. I don't think I did. I think I was too old for that at that point.  I don't think that was, I don't think that was my thing, that's probably what I got made fun of.

Yeah, everyone do their best Elmo impression you can. Elmo loves you! Well, that's gonna do it. , quality here.  Take a nice deep breath now, as Elmo. Ahhhh. . Elmo's the best, man. , he's got a dark past that people don't really know about. . His struggles with crack?

Andrew, you don't need to call this man out on his personal life. . We just, I just know he's a troubled character. 1997. I don't think you guys are even gonna come close, but take some guesses.  ,  I said Polly Pocket earlier, and  I'll stick with that.

Lisa Frank's  picture books. Oh, , Pokemon Monopoly. Ooh.

You're really reaching there, aren't you? It's a great one. This year was the year of Elmo clones. No. , I don't remember any of these. No. This is disappointing. Talking Arthur. , from Hey Arthur? I don't know it, there's no It's just Arthur, isn't it? It's just Arthur, the aardvark. Yeah, this is Talking Arthur, , Real Talking Bubba Bear, , Hug and Wiggles, Winnie the Pooh, And Interactive Barbie.

And those are like the top, , Highest selling toys in that year?  I guess the Elmo craze Continued over into that year, and a lot of like Spinoff. Alright, let's move on to 98. So 98, you wanna guess? Another big one.  I know a lot of people that had these. I didn't, but , I knew parents that had fought tooth and nail just to get their kids one for Christmas.

Give us a hint beyond that, cause I don't have anywhere to go. I'm lost. It's a little creature.  Little creature? Furbies. Oh, no, no, no. Beanie Babies. No, you were right with Furby. I was. Fuck off! 1998 was the Furby year. I've said Furby, what, three times before that? A store director, Steve Meredith, declaring this is far worse than Tickle Me Elmo.

I have never seen people do desperate things to get a toy like this. Furbies are just fucking creepy. People started lining up at 3am  to get a Furby for Christmas that year. How many, how many,   You know the original Furbies, the ones that they recalled, are worth   thousands of dollars. Really?

Yeah, if you find one out there in the wild, keep it.  What was recalled about them? I can't remember, ,  maybe those were the ones released before they put the spy technology in it So they were recalled to put the spy technology in now. I fucking see hot it was let's head to 1999 All right hint    this one was Huge as like a game series. It was huge as  collectibles Pokemon. It was Pokemon  No one's that's it. Okay, man.

That was 99. That was 99 Pokemon. That's when it that's probably not when it came out but that's when it now cuz I think the Original like red and blue came out in  96 or 97. Yeah, but this isn't like an America. This is not The year it came out. This is the year it hit its peak That is fair. Yeah, and it earned 555 million dollars.

I'm pretty sure Pokemon is the highest grossing like media franchise or franchise out there, like to this day. Yeah, this is just when it hit its peak enough to upsell everything. I mean, Pokemon's great. I'll never knock Pokemon,  those original games were very good. The original, the first three generations were all phenomenal.

So after that then I will start to knock but first three  were peak  video games that wraps it up for  the 90s toys any thoughts on any of those?  Disappointing definitely I wanted to see bop it in there. I wanted to see great I wanted to see, I don't know, a Chia Pet or something, even though that's probably a little bit older, isn't it?

70s. 70s, okay, again, a little far off, but, , yeah, , what was the, , Andrew had all the 70s toys. You were just playing with Jacks and, like, Lincoln Logs. I was a fucking hipster in the 90s, man. You know how I was. You didn't name it. You were bored into it. It was Stretch Armstrong, like I have Stretch Armstrong.

Yeah, , I'm surprised we didn't hear something like G. I. Joe or Stretch Armstrong or, or something. How, how old was ., G. I. Joe's were 80s, . Okay. He Man, I thought maybe, would carry over in the 90s, but it looked like there was enough created in the 90s to create that craze. Cause I wanna do, , I just wanna quick, high, or , most popular 90s toys.

There's definitely a few that  I would've thought, like the PlayStation, why wasn't the PlayStation on there? That is too expensive.  How much was the original PlayStation when it came out?  That's a good question. I would say probably about 200 bucks. Probably, that would be pretty costly. Oh, like Tamagotchi.

Why wasn't that included? Yeah. Or Well, and also this is at Christmastime too. Keep that in mind. Pogs! Why wasn't Pogs in one of those years?  Or Buzz Lightyear! Like Buzz Lightyear was such a big toy when it came out. Yeah, I mean  what was their tracks? Also, I know that Star Wars was 70s into 80s, but I feel like Star Wars toys were huge in the 90s.  The toys that got big again in 99 went Phantom Menace, but that would have been during the summer of 99. Hey, what about Betty Spaghetti?

You don't remember that?    Well, that's it. That's the top selling toys of the 90s. , Andrew has some qualms with that list even though it is factual Kyle had qualms too. It's not just me . I had qualms that , we didn't see more, ,  saving private Ryan nor storming the beaches kind of thing.

, thank you Fisher price Thank you for all and remember this episode is dedicated to Ryan day If you're listening to it and need a job, which I think soon you will you can come work for us Thanks guys, and we'll see you around the corner for another  Short hold up just a minute
